Ken D. Kumayama

Ken Kumayama is a counsel in Skadden’s Intellectual Property and Technology group. He concentrates his practice on IP transactional matters and privacy. Mr. Kumayama is fluent in Japanese and worked for more than four years in Japan, both as an attorney at a Japanese law firm and for a Japanese company.

He represents clients in technology and commercial transactions relating to the ownership, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, including IP monetization strategies, development and license agreements, co-development agreements, pharmaceutical collaboration agreements, patent and other technology license agreements, trademark and copyright license agreements, and patent and other intellectual property asset sales and acquisitions. He also counsels clients in a broad range of industries on privacy-related matters.

Mitchell Rosenfeld
Director, Houlihan Lokey

Mr. Rosenfeld is a Director in Houlihan Lokey’s Tech+IP Advisory practice. He has over 25 years of patent experience representing clients ranging from Fortune 50 companies to Silicon Valley startups, with an emphasis on litigation, portfolio evaluation, complex licensing and sales transactions, and development and implementation of patent licensing campaigns.

During his career, Mr. Rosenfeld has transacted in excess of $150 million in IP assets. He has been involved in every stage of the patent process, from initial invention to patent prosecution, to exercising patent rights through licensing, sale, and litigation. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Rosenfeld was a Managing Director at Black Stone IP, a boutique investment bank focused on valuing and trading Tech+IP assets, which was acquired by Houlihan Lokey in 2017.

Jiyoung Choi

Jiyoung has over 7 years of capital market experience through Morgan Stanley building portfolio optimization strategies for financial institutions and operating entities. During the recent financial crisis, she worked for Joint Venture project, performed financial and business analysis for senior managements of Morgan Stanley to negotiate with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes for both parties. She is also passionate about creating a network for scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs so she co-founded STeLA (Science and Technology Leadership Association) Japan and organized the first STeLA Leadership Forum in 2007. Jiyoung is versed in Korean (native), Japanese (native), English (fluent) and Chinese (intermediate).​

He has experience in high stakes patent infringement litigations involving electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, software, and other technologies. He also has intellectual property consulting experience with copyright, trademark, and Internet law. Since 2007, he has expanded his practice and is handling commercial litigation and corporate governance issues. Mr. Makman is bilingual; he reads and speaks Japanese.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Makman worked for several years for Matrix Kabushiki Kaisha in Tokyo marketing U.S. software products to Japanese companies. In Japan, Mr. Makman represented companies marketing AI, CAD CASE and object oriented software.
