Rihaku Inoue
Japanese Calligraphy Artist
Rihaku is a well known calligraphy artist based in Japan. She actively promotes her work through solo exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations overseas. Her style is considered a new type of Japanese calligraphy that incorporates color with acrylic paints, in addition to the traditional black ink. Japanese calligraphy is commonly understood to be simply “writing”, but by using more three-dimensional, active expressions, she believes it can be an art form. Even if the audience has no knowledge of Japanese characters, she wants this contemporary calligraphy style to stimulate viewers’ senses and be valued as contemporary visual art across all borders. She has provided calligraphic graphic designs to corporations and has also designed wall artwork for public spaces. She has received high acclaim for her artworks and workshops through her live calligraphy performances.
