新型コロナに揺れるシリコンバレー：今、日本企業がすべきこと (日本語プログラム）

サンフランシスコ・ベイエリアでは、 “Shelter-in-place” と呼ばれる不要不急の外出禁止命令が全米でいち早く発出されました。COVID-19はシリコンバレーにあるテクノロジー企業やスタートアップを含むあらゆる企業に多大な影響を与えています。

シリコンバレーでの活動は、日本企業の担当者にとってコロナ以前の通常の状況においてもチャレンジングなものでしたが、今回、企業が在宅勤務や、オンラインネットワーキングを採用し、また複雑な取引をもヴィデオ会議で行うようになったため、一層難しいものになっています。

今回のセミナーでは、COVID-19によってもたらされたシリコンバレーの課題、その中でイノベーターたちがこれら課題にどう対応し前進しようとしているのか、また、日本企業がこの危機にどう適応し、いかにチャンスに変えることができるか、その可能性について取り上げます。また、シリコンバレーで事業を推進している日本企業が、影響を最小限にとどめ、ベイエリアのテクノロジー企業へのアクセスを強めることができるか、その秘訣を披露します。

COVID-19’s Impact on Silicon Valley:  What can Japanese Companies do to Cope?

The Bay Area was one of the first regions in the US to mandate shelter-in-place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, which has significantly impacted all businesses, including the tech giants and start-ups of Silicon Valley and the Japanese companies that seek to partner with them.  Accessing Silicon Valley, always a challenge for Japanese technology scouts even in good times, has now become much more difficult as firms adapt to working from home, networking online, and conducting complex transactions via teleconferencing.  Please join us to hear two speakers explain the challenges that Silicon Valley faces with COVID-19, how innovators are addressing those challenges and moving forward in spite of the virus, and steps that Japanese firms in Silicon Valley can take to adapt and even benefit from the crisis.

Peter Kenevan is a senior partner at McKinsey in Tokyo, will talk about how Silicon Valley companies, including start-ups, are adjusting and maintaining their innovative edge in the new world of coronavirus.  Nancy Yamaguchi, a partner at the law firm Morgan Lewis, will explain the shelter-in-place rules, which are far stricter than those in place in Japan, and the impact that the virus has had on tech-related acquisitions.  Both will recommend steps Japanese firms doing business in Silicon Valley can take to mitigate harm and enhance their capacity to access technology partners in the Bay Area.    The session will be moderated by Kiyo Aburaki, Managing Director, BowerGroupAsia, Japan.
