Please come hear Brooklyn-based Japanese manga artist Misako Rocks as she traces her journey to success as a published creator. She’ll talk about how she developed her signature style, the challenges she had to overcome, and her current project, Bounce Back, a young adult graphic novel that will be published in Fall 2021.

Both of Misako Rocks’ parents were police officers in Tokyo, where she was raised, and they expected her to follow their footsteps. But she wanted something different and won a scholarship to be an exchange student at Missouri State. Determined to stay in the United States, she tried many different career paths: puppeteering, rock n’ roll, and eventually, comics. Building a career as a Japanese manga artist in the US wasn’t easy, but Misako will explain how her persistence and creativity helped her succeed.

At the end of the talk, Misako will give an interactive manga drawing workshop. Teens and children are welcome to join what will be an inspiring and fun event for all ages
