In aging populations, longevity is not the only goal. Extending years lived in good health is an increasingly important priority for healthcare systems worldwide, including Japan and the United States. While researchers have been able to slow aging and increase health span in laboratory animals, translating these findings to human healthcare remains a complex challenge.
The ACCJ Healthcare Forum and the Japan Society of Northern California are pleased to co-host a special breakfast event featuring two leading U.S. researchers specializing in healthy aging and geroscience, the study of biological mechanisms in aging.
Dr. Dan Belsky, associate professor of epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, will share insights from his research into biological aging as well as innovative approaches to measuring the pace of aging and their potential applications in research and clinical trials.
Dr. Brianna Stubbs, assistant professor at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, will explore what it means to age successfully, focusing on intrinsic capacity (the combination of physical and mental abilities that let people stay independent and active) and how it can be measured, characterized, and improved through interventional practices.
The session will provide an opportunity to explore emerging scientific developments, consider their implications for healthcare innovation, and exchange perspectives on advancing healthy aging. Participants will also be able to connect with healthcare professionals and stakeholders from Japan and the United States.
