Stewardship in Japan: Resolution for Revolution
The publication of Japan’s Corporate Governance Code in 2015 capped a long list of capital market revitalization efforts, including the introduction of a Stewardship Code. The Stewardship Code outlines the responsibilities of institutional investors to enhance the medium- to long-term investment return for their clients/beneficiaries through constructive engagement (dialogue) with portfolio companies. There are over 200 signatories to Japan’s Stewardship Code, including Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF). How are asset managers fulfilling their responsibilities related to the Stewardship Code and what changes have resulted from increased engagement? What plans does the GPIF have to drive further engagement and increase principles of responsible investment in Japan? We hope you can join this event to hear first-hand from these thought leaders about the most recent developments, challenges, opportunities and plans for the future.
