The Japan Society of Northern California is hosting a members-only gathering where you’ll have the opportunity to meet our board, staff and other members! CHOYA will be showcasing their Umeshu, a traditional Japanese liqueur made from ume fruit. They’ll discuss the history, the process of how it’s made and have samples for you to try. Come mingle and drink Umeshu!
The Annual General Members’ Meeting is complimentary for JSNC members. New members are also encouraged to register and attend. We have limited capacity so we encourage you to please register early!
About Umeshu:
A perfect balance between ume extract and alcohol is achieved by aging the whole fruit, with the stone still inside. The delicious tang of Umeshu comes from citric acid in the fruit, and the refreshing flavour stimulates the appetite. Umeshu also contains malic and succinic acids. Refresh yourself by enjoying a glass of Umeshu when feeling tired. The addition of alcohol to the fruit during production means that the ume flavour can be extracted not only from the flesh and skin but also from the stone. It is this process which gives CHOYA Umeshu its unique fruity bouquet, with notes of almond and marzipan.
About CHOYA:
Located in Osaka, the company first started as a wine-grape grower in 1914. Later in 1959 CHOYA began production of Umeshu, a traditional Japanese ume fruit liqueur. Today CHOYA is the No.1 Umeshu making company in the world. Our mission is to produce and promote the finest Umeshu made from natural ingredients.
