Connecting Japan and the U.S. Through Innovation

April 4, 2018 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

This VC Breakfast is jointly hosted by the ACCJ and the Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC) and features two business leaders who are working to connect Japan and Silicon Valley.

For the past eight years the JSNC in cooperation with the Stanford University U.S.-Asia Technology Management Center has hosted the Japan-U.S. Innovation Awards Symposium (http://www.usjinnovate.org) to nurture the close ties between Japan and the San Francisco/Silicon Valley innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Every year the Symposium honors one Japanese and one American company.
This will be a moderated panel discussion featuring:

  • Michael Tso, co-founder and CEO of Cloudian, a US enterprise data storage company that was recognized by the Symposium as an innovation Showcase company in 2015.
  • Allen Miner, founder and Chairman of Sunbridge Corporation, is one of Japan’s leading venture capitalists and angel investors with significant experience in internet, enterprise software entrepreneurship, and international business development.

INCJ Managing Director Ken Yasunaga will moderate a discussion about Japan’s challenges as a shrinking and aging nation that is seeking to increase productivity through technology and innovation. The speakers will address their experiences as venture capitalists working at the nexus of Japan and Silicon Valley and the opportunities and challenges they encounter as they operate in both markets.
