Members of the Mirai Legacy Society (未来, meaning future) are supporters who have chosen to include the Japan Society of Northern California in their estate plans. Through these visionary commitments, members help ensure that the Society’s mission will continue to thrive for generations to come.
Legacy gifts provide enduring support for the Society’s programs and allow JSNC to invest in new opportunities that strengthen ties between the United States and Japan.

Ways to Include JSNC in Your Plans
There are several great ways to support the Japan Society of Northern California through a legacy gift.
Bequests in a Will or Trust
A gift through your will or living trust is the most common form of legacy giving. You may designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other provisions have been fulfilled.
Retirement Accounts
You may name the Japan Society of Northern California as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement account. This can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to make a charitable gift.
Life Insurance Policies
You may designate JSNC as a beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy.
Donor-Advised Funds
Many donor-advised funds allow you to name charitable organizations as successor beneficiaries.
If you are considering a legacy gift, we encourage you to consult with your financial advisor or estate planning professional.
Recognition
Individuals who inform us that they have included the Japan Society of Northern California in their estate plans are welcomed as members of the Mirai Legacy Society.
Members may be recognized in Society publications and invited to select special gatherings and programs, unless anonymity is preferred.
Suggested Bequest Language
If you wish to include the Japan Society of Northern California in your will or trust, the following language may be helpful to your attorney:
“I give to the Japan Society of Northern California, a California nonprofit organization, the sum of $______ (or ______% of my estate), to be used for its general purposes.”
