Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Shodō, the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy, under the instruction of Goyo Morimoto in Cupertino! Morimoto holds the rank of 8th Dan/Level, the highest rank set by Nihon Shuji, one of the largest calligraphy associations in Japan. 

This hands-on workshop invites participants of all levels to explore the beauty of brush and ink while learning the cultural and artistic significance behind each graceful stroke. Participants will receive an introduction to Japanese calligraphy and step-by-step guidance on basic brush techniques and kanji character formation. At the end of the workshop you’ll create your own calligraphy piece of a kanji of your choice to take home. Space is limited so don’t wait to reserve your spot!

Our Amazing Teacher

Goyo Morimoto | Calligraphy Instructor 

She is involved in various activities to share the beauty of calligraphy. As an instructor, she runs Goyo-Shachu, a calligraphy school with students of all ages and skill levels, from children to adults.  She holds workshops on various themes, such as “New Year’s resolutions” and “Kana calligraphy,” in both Japanese and English. As a big-brush calligraphy performer, she has performed in cities across the U.S. and abroad, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nice (France), and recently in Taiwan. As an artist, she creates works that combine abstract painting with calligraphy. She has also designed calligraphic logos for various organizations.
