Movie Chat: Watch and Discuss!

May 14 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$230

*For Students at an Intermediate High Level
**This is a conversation workshop — you’ll watch movies and discuss them in Japanese with your classmates.

Do you like watching “Japanese” related movies? Do you find yourself enjoying analyzing movies with others? Then this discussion class is for you! We are now accepting students for an exciting  7-week Japanese conversation class. During the course, (1.5 hours/session), Sensei will facilitate the class to examine and discuss two Japanese films. These are the picks:

  1. “Perfect Days” Directed by Wim Wenders (2023)
  2. “Junichiro Tanizaki on Japanese Aesthetics-In Praise of Shadows”

Students will be encouraged to talk in Japanese about these assignments while learning about the cultural and historical backgrounds of the contents. The first session will outline the seven weeks. Sakamoto-sensei, specializing in conversation skills, will review the lesson before each session, followed by a film discussion. This course is a wonderful opportunity to discover and discuss awesome films and is a “Perfect” way to practice your Japanese with your fellow movie-loving classmates!

*This workshop is meant for those at an Intermediate High level as defined on page 7 of the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.

*Workshops with low enrollment may be canceled.

Date: Starting on May 14th at 6:30pm (Pacific Time) Tuesdays 7 sessions!

Fee: $230 (Membership is required for this booking. Join and support the Japan Society! Membership can also be applied to sign up for group lessons and workshop in the future!)
